How Soldier faded away

Another good interview, if I’m allowed to say that, out in Swindon with Barry Andrews, who played the only interesting music on Iggy’s ill-fated Soldier album. Barry is observant, funny, and made sense of the whole disaster for the first time, pointing out that “no one was flying the plane”. I’m saving his stories, because they’ll be key to this tricky chapter, but here are his opening remarks about Soldier:
“It’s a real drag: my mate Lu Edmonds has played with loads of great people, Public Image, The Damned, and everybody always says, “so you’re on that really great record! And he goes, “No, I’m on the one after that really great record! The one everyone says is shite. So it’s, I’m playing with Iggy, far out!. But NO! Not THAT album! The one after the great album!”

Barry, who was of course a key member of XTC during their finest period, is still busy with Shriekback. More information at http://www.barryandrews.net/
